Roundtable: “Practical Aspects of AI Implementation: Investor Case Studies and Recommendations for the Public Sector”

On 3 April 2026, a Roundtable on “Practical Aspects of AI Implementation: Investor Case Studies and Recommendations for the Public Sector” took place in Astana.

 

The event was organized within the framework of the Digitalization Working Group of the Foreign Investors’ Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, co-chaired by:

 

On the Kazakh side - Mr. Zhaslan Madiev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

On the foreign side - Mr. Saken Zhumashev, Managing partner and CEO at KPMG Caucasus and Central Asia.

 

The objective of the meeting was to create an expert platform for demonstrating practical AI solutions, exchanging experience between investors and the public sector, and developing recommendations for scaling technologies across key sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy.

 

Opening remarks were delivered by Zhaslan Madiev, Saken Zhumashev, and Ms. Zhanna Baidasheva, Director of the Kazakhstan Foreign Investors’ Council Association (KFICA)

 

During the event, representatives of KFICA member companies presented practical AI implementation cases, including solutions from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), VEON / QazCode, Wabtec, KPMG, Baker Hughes, and Microsoft.

 

Participants discussed the development of the national AI ecosystem, issues of digital sovereignty, and solutions for industry, energy, telecommunications, and the public sector, including the development of language models, digital monitoring, process automation, and data center expansion.

 

Discussion sessions also included representatives from the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Committee on Digital Assets and Breakthrough Technologies, as well as companies EY and Microsoft.

 

Special attention was given to the development of cloud infrastructure, implementation of the Cloud First policy, and the initiative to establish a “Data Center Valley” in Kazakhstan. Key regulatory barriers and approaches to their removal were also discussed.

 

The meeting concluded with a set of recommendations to be considered in preparation for the 38th Plenary Session of the Foreign Investors’ Council under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

 

Participants noted the high level of engagement and emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue between the government and investors to accelerate the adoption of innovative technologies.
